My interview with #bestselling #crimethriller #author #JohnCarson

August 5, 2019

When I asked John Carson, the Edinburgh born author of bestselling procedural crime thriller - GOD COMPLEX - where the idea for his latest title came from he had this to say:

'It all started in the late 70's, around 1978. I lived opposite Warriston cemetery, and the BBC were in there one summer, filming a new show called The Omega factor. My friends and I were watching the actors going about, and them filming scenes, and I remember all these big vehicles, like converted buses. There was a lot going on and we found it fascinating. Fast forward, and I had the idea to feature this in a crime novel. So, the idea for God Complex stayed in my head for 40 years! Now Harry McNeil is going to feature in his own spin-off series, the first book being Sticks and Stones.'

The novel has been a bestseller since its release in June and I must say sounded so fantastic that after I read the blurb I had to bag my copy:

If you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel…

…he’ll show you the way…

A woman is found in a local cemetery, crushed to death under a gravestone. A production company is there, filming the remake of a classic sci-fi TV show in the grounds, making the investigation more difficult for DI Frank Miller.

It’s DCI Harry McNeil’s first day in charge of the cold case unit in Edinburgh. After spending four years in Professional Standards, he has little choice but to take the promotion. The Crown Office decides which cold cases should be reviewed, and this time, they’ve decided the murder of a teenage girl from twenty years ago should be re-opened. A girl who was murdered by somebody pushing a gravestone on top of her…

As Miller joins forces with McNeil, the case gets more complicated when they find out who the latest victim is. Suddenly, there is no shortage of suspects.

A detective comes up from Newcastle after hearing about Miller’s case. It seems he’s been investigating a similar case. Miller uncovers more, but can this detective be trusted, or is he playing by his own rules?

As the filming continues, so does the killing. And Miller wonders, has a killer been murdering for twenty years? Or is this case completely unconnected? With Harry McNeil’s help, he’s going to find out…the hard way…
